Plan the work
Set the use
- Describe who uses the space, where people walk, where vehicles or equipment go, and which areas should stay low-maintenance.
Read the ground
- Mark wet or eroding spots, downspouts, slope changes, roots, buried lines if known, and access for soil or stone delivery.
Choose materials by site
- Match plants, turf, edging, and ground cover to local climate, drainage, sun exposure, and maintenance.
- Do not bury irrigation or drainage changes in a planting allowance.
